The Magician’s Accomplice: A Commander Jana Matinova Investigation
by Michael Genelin
Hardcover
List Price: $25.00
Published in 2010
ISBN-10: 1-56947-626-8

I was very lucky to get a free Kindle copy of this book. I actually turned on the speech function of Kindle so I can listen and drive. This story enthralled me from the start. An impoverish student, masquerading as a guest, sneaked into Savoy hotel in Slovakia to get a free breakfast. He was gunned down as a result. Slovakian police commander Jana Matinova received the call late at night and plunged into this unusual murder case.

I love the setting. When I started reading this book, I had no idea of it’s foreign setting. It’s always fun to know about other countries. Just like when I read Blood of the Wicked by Leighton Gage. I like the journey and the information that I wouldn’t otherwise know. I highly recommend this book. It was free when I downloaded it, but right now, it’s $9.99 as an e-book in Kindle.

About the author:

Michael Genelin, a graduate of UCLA and the UCLA Law School, has served in the LA District Attorney’s Office and the US Department of Justice in Central Europe. Halfway through my first book, I fell in love with Julie Klassen. She’s a fantastic writer and I hope to read more of her books.

I first read The Apothecary’s Daughter because Kindle offered the book for free. I was surprised to find myself enjoying the story. I usually would read 6 or more books simultaneously, but this one just hog all my attention. I can empathized with Lily. I remember most anything (or I used to :P ). This book kept me guessing until the very end. It’s when I find treasures like this that I really feel very lucky to own a kindle. If not for it, I doubt I would have stumbled into these books.

Julie Klassen’s book is amazingly entertaining. It’s got depth, intrigue, and other ingredients that make it work so well for the reader. She tackles tough and common issues, and the story comes out extraordinary. In Lady of Milkweed Manor, Charlotte Lamb bore a child out of wedlock. I learned more about ‘nursemaids’ that I thought possible. It is a powerful story. I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s so enjoyable.

I’m now reading her third and latest book called The Silent Governess. I wish there was more to read, but I’ll just have to wait for the next one to come out. Julie, please write more books! I am looking forward to the next one.

I can’t believe that I had this book ‘sitting’ on my kindle since August 2009. It’s a free download from Kindle. I finally thought to read it last night, and I cannot put it down. I like Verity Scott very much. She has a hard life but she’s strong. She even manages to keep her sense of humor. She loves her Max. Despite everything that she has to go through, she managed to keep her sense of humor. Of course, a hard life such as hers leaves some scars. The comedy of errors and misunderstand is so finely crafted that it will keep you glued to the book. You cannot help but care what happens to these couple. Let me now what you think of this book when you’re read it.

November 2008

My friend, Che (The Book Bitches), told me about this book. Now, when Che likes a books, there’s a 99% chance that I’d enjoy it too. She’s the one who steer me towards The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons, and The Tea Rose, The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. I think that if you read books, then these are three stories that you mustn’t miss in this lifetime. Thank you  for the head’s up, Che!  I only say 99% because for some reason, Che does not like Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Now, I think this book is awesome! But she doesn’t think so.

Okay, back to Mermaid’s Kiss. I bought an ebook version in kindle. I love mermaid stories, along with angels, and dragons and fairies, too. When all of these elements are in one book, how could I not read it? Jonah is an angel who fights the Dark Ones for a long, long time. He’s starting to feel like he’s one of them. In one of these battles, he lost his wing and fell, right into Anna’s arms. Well, not really, but close. Anna is a Daughter of Arriane. She’s isolated from her fellow mer creatures because of this stigma attached to her.

Jonah is depressed and fast losing hope. Anna makes it her mission to bring this angel back to light, but first, she’ll have to figure out how to get him away from the Dark Ones, attached his wing, and heal his spirit. I love the battle scenes. As a recent sci-fi fan of movies like Star Trek, I enjoy the battle scenes in this book. I get so engrossed with the story, I sometimes forget it’s fiction. This is also a very erotic book, but it’s not erotica. Just erotic. Overall, a fun and entertaining read. I love, love, love it. And since I love this one book, I’ll have to go and get all of this author’s other books. I don’t want to miss a thing.

Covet (Fallen Angels, Book 1)
by J.R. Ward

I just finished reading this book from my Kindle. One of the first J.R. Ward book I bought a electronic copy of. It started out sort of slow, but then I dig Jim Heron after a while. He’s an unlikely hero. I just don’t get Marie Therese. Her rationalization  just doesn’t ring true for me. Still, Ward is a clever writer, and I still read the book to the end. I like Vin. He’s in 3-D. I get his instant curiosity about someone. I get that sometimes, I get so fascinated by a person I saw and just want to find out everything about them. For example, you’ll find me watching movie after movie with Richard Armitage in it after I finished watching North and South, or Matthew McFadyen after watching Pride and Prejudice. But this sort of  impulse was most prevalent for me when I was in grade school.  Now I reserve it for attractive actors I saw in a movie and want to watch more of.

Would I read the next book in this series? Yes, I would.

Description:

Redemption isn’t a word Jim Heron knows much about-his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charge with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option. Vin DiPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he’s good with that-until fate intervenes in the form of a tough- talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart-and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.
